Paul Poderr Jr. received his powers in 1941, through training and meditation. The powers led to total bodily transformation. He declared himself to be the Powernaut, and intervened in World War Two. He was publicly active through 1954, then spent the next several years assisting S.O.S. with space exploration. This culminated in a mission to Mars in 1962. By 1966 he had become a secret agent. That year he disappeared for several decades. However, it was revealed in 2005 that he and some others were in some way a part of the present-day Powernaut. In 2011 they all went to Power City on a new Earth.
This Powernaut is neither the first Powernaut nor the most recent, but he is the most famous. He is often referred to as the Powernaut.
The Powernaut has always been inclined toward action, and heroic to a fault. In 1941 he was somewhat goofy and easily distracted. But by the 1960s he was an effective combatant and leader of heroes. Whenever he has appeared after that, he has been an elder guide to Powernauts.
Powers and Abilities
The Powernaut has heightened human abilities, especially strength. Physically he is among the strongest humanoids in the universe, or indeed any universe.
He has gotten more powerful over the decades. In 1941 he could leap the English Channel. By 1954 he had super-vision and could withstand a fall from great height or an attack by crocodiles. He has been able to fly under his own power since 1962. But most importantly, the Powernaut (like every Powernaut) understands every superhuman power he is exposed to. He does not absorb these powers, but he instinctively knows the powers' limitations.
The Powernaut dresses in blue jeans and turtleneck sweater, black boots, and a yellow poncho. He has black hair (later brown), parted on both sides.
The name "Powernaut" came to me in a dream, as one of the four most powerful superhumans at a picnic alongside the Thing and the Juggernaut. The Powernaut text features were born on Easter Saturday 2005, on a mobile computer at a pub in Hanover Park, Illinois. The Powernaut web comics were born on 17 September 2011, on a cafeteria seat of the Alaska state ferry system, when my computer had crapped out and all I could do was draw cartoons. I had great plans for Powernaut web comics, but it amazes me that I am several years into that plan and still going. It's about the most legitimate self-publishing thing I've ever done. So I've launched this Wiki site with him.
